Why finance?
I felt it was going to be a challenge, more so than studying management. I’m a numbers-oriented person, and finance is applicable in fields in both Canada and the U.S.
Why UMaine?
I got a soccer scholarship. And UMaine was close to home — only six hours away. I also wanted to come to the States.
Tell me about your soccer career.
In my four years playing for UMaine, I was a forward. I’ve been playing soccer since I was 6. It’s the only sport I play. It’s always been my passion.
Is soccer in your post-graduate plans?
I’m thinking about playing in Europe, but for now, I’ll play semi-pro back home.
Other plans after graduation?
I’ve applied to graduate school in Canada to study accounting.
Where do you hope to be in five years?
I’ve always wanted to work in a big city. I’m not sure what I’ll be doing, but I think it will be something in finance. I’m also really interested in American politics.
Who were some of the people who inspired you most at UMaine?
Coach Scott Atherley showed us it’s more than just about soccer. He also was always there for everyone. And assistant coach Jackie Gebhart is a cancer survivor. She was a big inspiration for our team.
What was the key to your academic success as one of the top graduating international students in the College of Business, Public Policy and Health?
Academics were first, even before soccer. Soccer was the main reason I came, but I wanted to leave this place with solid GPA. I was a scholar-athlete all four years.
Most memorable UMaine moments?
Were on the soccer field.
Favorite place on campus?
The Union, relaxing with friends.
The highlight of your academic experience?
When I chose finance two years in, I knew it was the start of my career. It opened my eyes to looking at things like the stock market. I discovered a new passion.
